Tournament Format

Captain’s Choice (Scramble)

The Gridiron Golf Tournament is played in a Captain’s Choice format, also known as a Scramble. This is a team-based format designed to be fun, fast-paced, and inclusive for golfers of all skill levels.

How It Works

  1. Teams of Four – Each team consists of four players. You may register as a full team or as an individual and be paired with other players.
  2. Everyone Tees Off – On each hole, all four team members hit their tee shot.
  3. Best Shot Selected – The team selects the best shot of the four. All players then move their ball to that spot.
  4. Repeat Until Holed – The process continues from the selected spot – all four players hit, the best shot is chosen, and everyone plays from there – until the ball is in the hole.
  5. Record the Score – The team records one score per hole based on the combined best efforts of the group.

Key Rules

  • Tee Shots – Each player’s tee shot must be used a minimum number of times during the round (typically 2–3 times, announced at the start). This ensures every player contributes to the team’s score.
  • Ball Placement – When moving to the selected best shot, each player places their ball within one club length of the chosen spot (no closer to the hole), unless on the green, where the ball is placed within six inches.
  • Putting – On the green, once a ball is placed at the chosen spot, each player putts. If one player sinks it, the rest of the team does not need to finish – the hole is complete.
  • Mulligans – Each player receives one complimentary mulligan (a free re-do of any shot). Additional mulligan packs are available for purchase as an add-on during registration.
  • Handicaps – No handicaps are required. The scramble format naturally levels the playing field and makes it enjoyable for players of all abilities.
